STALACTITE – network-like audiovisual light installation

Artists Christopher Bauder & Boris Divider  Year 2018-2019  City Brussels, Belgium / Beijing, China

STALACTITE is a monumental light installation by light artist Christopher Bauder created in collaboration with musician Boris Divider. The immense structure composed of 360 light fixtures resembles an inverted pyramid network and oats above the public.

It floats in the space and invites spectators to free their minds and enter the meditative world of STALACTITE. The layers of light create pulsating light animations generating complex shapes and light patterns which are directly synchronized with the electronic score. The sequential, minimalist and progressive audio-visual journey that STALACTITE takes people on, runs continuously in a loop so each visitor can enter or exit at any time.

STALACTITE was first presented during Bright Brussels in 2018. During four festival nights, 30,000 visitors took part in the experience. After the premiere in Brussels in February 2018, the installation was later presented as a highlight of Solana Light festival in Beijing, China. Hovering over the main outdoor stage of the festival for three months, the installation was open to visitors at any time of the day or night.
