In January 2020, light artist Christopher Bauder and musician Kangding Ray presented a new 360° version of their monumental audio-visual kinetic art installation SKALAR. Since its debut, SKALAR has delighted over a hundred thousand people and reshaped the landscape of modern art exhibitions.
SKALAR resides in the iconic Gashouder in Amsterdam from January 10 to February 5. As a special highlight, Christopher Bauder and Kanding Ray will play several exclusive SKALAR live shows — an expanded and intensified concert version of the animation cycle. The artists will bring choreographed light and electronic music to life in real-time. Every live show is a unique experience.
DEEP WEB is a monumental immersive audiovisual installation and live performance created by light artist Christopher Bauder and composer and musician Robert Henke. Presented in the spectacular industrial venue it plunges audience into a mesmerizing experience of space and time.
In July, it returns to its iconic birthplace, where Berliners and city guests will have six weeks to take part in this breathtaking art spectacle.
In January 2019, WHITEvoid presented FREQUENCIES as a part of CTM Festival’s 20th anniversary. Installed at Halle am Berghain along with a skating rink, the installation features a real-time synchronization of sound waves and light. KINETIC LIGHTS software analyses music and generates a specific color assigned to every frequency and beat. The colors move through light rods to the music and create a dazzling display in stark contrast to the brutalist architecture of the concrete hall.

STALACTITE is a monumental art light installation hovering over the main stage of Solana light festival in Beijing, China. After a big opening show in December 2018, the installation will run for three months in the Chinese capital and can be visited any time of the day or night. The immense inverted pyramid structure floats in the space and invites the spectators to enter its meditative audio-visual world. The
ELECTRIC MOONS presented during the 10th anniversary of PLOT magazine is an immersive kinetic installation that celebrates the power of light and lightness in the magnificent settings of St. Maria Church in Stuttgart, Germany. The weightless light balloons are moving precisely and effortlessly in the center of the deemed church, synchronized with minimal music and surrounded by the mesmerized audience.

We were happy to design and program a kinetic light show for the grand season finale featuring a kinetic ceiling including movable round mirrors, kinetic mirror balls and LED lights. The Smart City Installation is a physical city model superimposed with a virtual, animated information layer. The Microsoft HoloLens seamlessly connected holograms with the real world and allowed visitors to interact with digital content through a simple and intuitive gesture control.
WHITEvoid designs the trade fair stand and exterior area for Vodafone’s appearance at CeBIT 2017 in Hanover. A multiple-stories high and topics diversified architecture integrates the monumental three-dimensional light installation with individually controllable single pixels. The light animations indicated the dynamics of the Vodafone brand and symbolized flashing, luminous and abstract communication network.

DEEP WEB is an immersive audiovisual installation created by light artist Christopher Bauder and composer Robert Henke. Presented in enormous pitch-dark indoor spaces, DEEP WEB plunges the audience into a ballet of iridescent kinetic light and surround sound. The work will be presented as a preview at CTM 2016 Festival in collaboration with Kraftwerk Berlin.
With almost 180.000 mechanical platelets (so-called flip dots) which rotate by an electromagnetic pulse, ORBITAL is the largest flip dot installation in the world. The kinetic sculpture was designed and developed by WHITEvoid specifically for the customer center of Volkswagen’s Autostadt (car city) in Wolfsburg, Germany.
We are happy to announce that our LICHTGRENZE project won one gold and two bronze awards at the Cannes Lions 2015. It has also received 8 nails awards at the ADC Award 2015 including five in gold, one silver, one bronze and the overall grand prix and additionally a graphite pencil at the D&AD Awards in London.
WHITEvoid realized another permanent KINETIC LIGHTS installation. 200 kinetic RGB spheres were installed at Reign, Dubai’s latest addition to the high-end restaurant scene. The installation is part of the outdoor terrace with a retractable roof.
WHITEvoid designs Vodafone‘s 1430 sqm trade fair stand and outdoor area for the CeBIT fair in Hanover including two outdoor pavilions and a Porsche car race track. The central so-called FAST LANE connects the outdoor and indoor presentations and is accompanied by a monumental light installation symbolizing the speed of the network.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, light artist Christopher Bauder and his brother Marc were commissioned to create an extraordinary light installation called LICHTGRENZE (Border of Lights). From the 7th to the 9th of November 2014 the 15.3-kilometer frontier that once divided the city center was re-imagined in light by 8000 balloon lights all developed and produced by WHITEvoid. More than 1 Million people was taking part in the choreographed and televised balloon release event in the streets of Berlin on the last day of the installation.
CIRCULAR is a kinetic light art installation created by Christopher Bauder and presented at the light art exhibition Lumieres – The Play of brilliants at the Elephant Paname art gallery in Paris. The exhibition is open to the public until the end of May.

The space is divided into 3 main zones, each focusing on key services provided by the client. CITROËN celebrates the 5th anniversary of its DS-Models and marks the 136th birthday of its founder Andre Citroën while also presenting its newest C4 Cactus model along with 65-meter long KINETIC LIGHTS installation ever. The idea for the PAPER WAVE installation comes from CITROËN and agency Lever de Rideau, while its effective implementation from WHITEvoid designers and engineers.
The Mendelssohn Effektorium is a technically complex, but user-friendly and exceedingly fun installation at the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Museum in Leipzig. The visitor becomes a conductor and by swinging the conductor´s baton decides upon the tempo of a musical piece. The instrumentation and tonality can be changed to enjoy a very personalized version of Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s work.

Philips Lumiblade presents the LIVING SCULPTURE 3D MODULE system designed by WHITEvoid at the Euroluce trade fair during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. The system is now commercially available. LIVING SCULPTURE design has won the prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award and the iF Product Design Award.
The art installation FLUIDIC – Sculpture In Motion – will be presented in the Temporary Museum for New Design as part of the Fuorisalone in Milan between 9-14 April, 2013. WHITEvoid designed and produced the installation for Hyundai’s Advanced Design Center. Combining high-power laser projectors, a dynamic point cloud and the interactions of its viewers we brought the design philosophy of Hyundai to life and transformed it into a vividly poetic art experience.

The LIVING SCULPTURE 3D MODULE system is the latest addition to the Philips Living Sculpture product family. WHITEvoid designed a modular plug and play OLED system that allows for infinite variations in layout and arrangement of a ceiling or wall lighting installation. The system consists of an online configurator to create the individual arrangement, a modular hardware system and an iPad controlled light animation application.
WHITEvoid offers various license models of the award-winning 3D PORTFOLIO application for online and offline integration with content management system included. The system is now also available as HTML5 version for mobile devices and as offline App for iPhone and iPad.
The LIVING SCULPTURE kinetic installation was created by WHITEvoid as the center piece for the Philips’ appearance at the Light+Building trade fair 2012 in Frankfurt.
The installation is composed of 24 movable triangular aluminum frames carrying 864 ultrathin glass OLEDs. Computer controlled slowly changing and evolving movement and luminance patterns accent the OLED specific mirror and light surface texture.
WHITEvoid designs DIGI STAGE, a video projector based digital stage lighting system with integrated depth camera tracking to pixel map the whole stage area. The system was initially commissioned for the theater play ‘Fanny and Alexander’ by director Sebastian Hartmann. The piece inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s movie was premiered in September 2011 at the Central Theater in Leipzig.
WHITEvoid created a kinetic light show to accompany the inaugural presentations of the spectacular Bugatti Veyron, the world’s fastest and most expensive street car, and the new Seat Exeo for the Volkswagen Group Show at the International Motor Show 2011 in Frankfurt. 80 KINETIC LIGHTS Tube light fixtures were specifically produced for this event to perform a spectacular ballet of lights.
CRYSTAL CHANDELIER is a permanent kinetic light art installation for the Tsvetnoy Central Market, a new department store in central Moscow. The hanging sculpture evokes the impression of a giant chandelier formed by crystal shaped light elements. The installation generates ever-changing shapes, movement and light animations with individual impressions for the day and night presentation.
We are very honored to be awarded again this year with the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. This time we are 1 out of 5 selected companies to receive the award in GOLD for our project NETWORK SIM for Lufthansa. NETWORK SIM has additionally already won 2 iF Awards.
The new KINETIC LIGHTS product lifts up to 3 kg and features full color RGB and RGBW LED output and the new winch design has won the iF Product Design Award this year. WHITEvoid creates a black monolithic trade fair stand at the 100% Design in London as a stage for the specially developed kinetic light sculpture – THE WAVE. The sculptural hanging light arrangement forms generative wave patterns complimented by blue light animations, symbolizing the main element of Roca, water. Our design was awarded with the iF Communication Design Award and the DDC German Designers Club Award.
BREAKING ICE is an interactive table with a 3D multitouch surface in the shape of a floating iceberg. The exhibit is permanently installed at the UNESCO site iceberg museum in Ilulissat, Greenland.
WHITEvoid was commissioned to edit and animate 25 chronological movies from existing historical video and photo footage and program a synchronizing software. All movies, additional static images and texts are synchronized and animated across 25 screens along a 18-meter wide timeline wall. The exhibit is part of the permanent exhibition of the museum.
WHITEvoid designs two exhibits installed inside Bombardier trains at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin. The first interactive installation demonstrates the reduction of the environmental impact of trains by the material chosen for their construction. The second interactive installation uses a multichannel surround sound system and projections on the trains windows to simulate the actual sound change inside a moving train when using Bombardier’s various noise reduction products.

LICHTGRENZE (Border of Lights) is a proposal for a temporary monument on the occasion of 25 years Fall of the Berlin Wall. 43,100 balloons, each equipped with a bright LED light inside, are to be placed along the old route of the Berlin Wall to mark the 43.1 km inner city border.
The album (available on CD and vinyl) contains the music written for the ATOM performance by WHITEvoid’s Christopher Bauder and Robert Henke (aka Monolake). The recording serves as a document of one possible scenario of the performance.

3D ONLINE PORTFOLIO is being honored with the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2010, the country‘s highest distinction in the field of design. The project has also received the Best in Show W3 Award which honors creative excellence on the web, and recognizes the creative and marketing professionals behind award winning sites.
WHITEvoid designs a website and a distinctive and unique brand icon for a new electricity provider in the German energy market, Strasserauf. The website features a 3D navigational environment which uses the paradigm of unfolding objects. It creates a playful interactive space that encourages visitors to explore the information within.
WHITEvoid develops the CONSTELLATION for the trade fair stand of the Swiss design and building company, Messerli, at Suisse EMEX 2009 in Zurich, Switzerland. The installation consists of a flexible array of cable winches with LED light spheres. Each light fixture can be adjusted individually in height and luminance by the control software. By synchronizing position and light animation, complex shapes and light patterns can be generated within the array.
UNSTUCK is an analog, but at the same time digital game which explores the relationship between food and faith. The game differentiates between religions by using dynamic lights and colors, also highlighting the progress of the game. The interactive game will be exhibited until February 28th, 2010 in the Jewish Museum Berlin.
The POLYGON PLAYGROUND installation is the center piece of the FREEZE! Art Show at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

WHITEvoid is proud to be a winner of the iF Communication Design Award 2009 for the 3D WEB PORTFOLIO. The project also won a WEBBY Award 2009, the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, and is nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2010.
The PRIVA TEXT installation is text projected onto ‘intelligent’ glass screens. It was developed together with media artist Arnold Dreyblatt for the Jewish Museum in Berlin. Text snippets from letters of concentration camp inmates and written orders from Nazi officers are displayed via synchronized text tickers projected onto ‘intelligent’ glass walls. The glass sheets can be switched from opaque to transparent to hide or reveal the visual content behind.
WHITEvoid develops for Macrovision Corporation / ROVI USA a 3D graphical user interface and novel interaction principle for future TV sets and cable set-top boxes. A grid-based 3D folding menu structure makes full use of the latest developments in HD TV sets. The software will be delivered as a built-in solution on TV sets with integrated solid state drives and highspeed internet connection. Macrovision registered the project for a patent. The product will be released in 2012.
ATOM will be presented at the 10th edition of MUTEK Festival Montreal, Canada (International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music).

WHITEvoid creates a large-scale interactive lounge object for SMUKfest, one of Denmark’s largest music festivals. The POLYGON PLAYGROUND offers room for up to 40 persons at a time to walk, sit and explore its multifaceted surfaces. The installation features a software aided 3D surface projection system to cover the object with a seamless 360-degree projection mapping and a sensory system to detect people’s positions and proximity.

WHITEvoid was commissioned to create an intuitive visual 3D image browser for viewzi.com called the 3D PHOTO CLOUD VIEW. Viewzi is a whole new way to experience search. Instead of one big list, you get nice visual views tailored for the content you are looking for.
WHITEvoid presents the first prototype of FLARE, kinetic ambient reflection membrane, at the NEXT art & technology exhibition in Aarhus, Denmark. FLARE is a pneumatic building facade system which consists of a number of tiltable metal flake bodies. By reflecting ambient or direct sunlight the individual flakes of the system act like pixels formed by natural light.
WHITEvoid was commissioned by Oticon hearing aids USA to produce a new 360-degree movie for their trade show cinema. The production involved a 360-degree video shooting at Potsdamer Platz Berlin with a video resolution of 6000×800 pixels.

The MIDI GUN is part of the exhibition ‘strings – keys – sounds’ at the Museum of Design in Zurich, Switzerland. It will be open to the public from 11th September, 2007 and will run until 2nd March, 2008.
